San Diego Mayor Gloria focuses on housing crises in speech

In his 2022 State of the City address, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria devoted a large section of his speech to addressing the housing crises and homelessness in the city. The Mayor began by touting some of the progress made in the last year toward curing the homeless problem in San Diego including noting that 132 new apartments for the homeless and nearly 1,000 more to be built in 2022.

Gloria also cited that there have been more than 200 temporary shelter beds added to the city’s count over the last year – a 21 percent increase. He noted that many of the city’s unsheltered population suffer from mental illness and in need of additional assistance.

“Let’s be clear,” said Gloria. “Under no circumstances is it compassionate to let a person live on the street,”

Today, conforming no-point 30-year fixed mortgage rates are averaging 3.0 percent and 15-year rates are near 2.25 percent.
