More homeowners trying out their green thumb

Orchids, succulents, passion flowers and geraniums are among the top choices for homeowner-gardeners. Construction of green houses, from simple do-it-yourself builds for a few hundred dollars to elaborate custom built metal-framed glass enclosures, is increasing in backyards across the country.

More than just a place to smell the roses, many work-from-home employees are seeking refuge in their gardens for solace or a new area to get some emails done.

Meanwhile, conforming no-point 30-year fixed mortgage rates are averaging 2.75 percent and 15-year rates are near 2.00 percent.
