California renters have protections beyond CDC
While there appears to be a legal battle brewing over the Centers for Disease Control’s eviction ban announced last week, the outcome may not impact renters in California. California tenants who are struggling to make the rent are protected under a statewide eviction moratorium until September 30.

An estimated 1.6 million renters in California are in arrears on their monthly rent payment. California is just one of 11 other states with their own eviction bans outside of any federal moratorium.

The two large stimulus packages passed by Congress earlier this year provided billions of dollars to California to get aid to renters’ struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Today, conforming no-point 30-year fixed mortgage rates are averaging 2.75 percent and 15-year rates are near 2.00 percent.
